ALL DIFFFERENT, ALL EQUAL

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The project is about differences, respect and tolerance, going back to the historical examples and signs of every form of persecution during the WW2 in our town and the lack of respect for differences that is still present today to let our students become aware of injustice thus helping them to act as good citizens.
It will be divided into two main parts: the first one dealing with the Holocaust, the second one with the inequalities and any forms of persecutions suffered nowadays in our own area (for example immigrants and refugees or any other form of injustice based on diversity). The results of the first part will be shown during a memorial event organized at school on 27th January. The students will make videos about places, collect meaningful witnesses, writings, pictures, objects, songs and “build” a “Memory Suitcase” from yesterday and today.

AIMS

Students will:

  • Reflect on different forms of discrimination and injustice
  • Raise awareness on persecutions and sufferings based on diversity
  • Learn about differences and similarities across different countries related to the same historical period
  • Analyze authentic historical documents
  • Develop digital competence through creating presentations, video-making tools, learning platforms
  • Improve language skills, especially speaking and writing
  • Develop collaborative tasks
  • Promote respect and tolerance
  • Compare and evaluate the quality and content of their work
  • Encourage creative and critical thinking
  • Increase motivation in learning a foreign language

WORK PROCESS

Students will explore a variety of resources, each group in their area—texts, images, songs, photos, artifacts, places. They will work to write questions for an interview to witnesses or experts on these historical events (collaborative task) to learn more about the Holocaust. Through the search and analysis of authentic material, they will organize it and show the results reflecting on similarities and differences. They will “pack a Memory Suitcase” with picture books, newspapers, writings, songs, objects related to the Holocaust. The second part of the project deals with new forms of persecution.  Students will explore a range of print and non-print resources through extensive inquiry activities, they will search examples from everyday life (interview to immigrants and refugees suffering from being away from home and living far from their country). The second part of the project will culminate in packing a Memory Suitcase of today, adding poems, songs, group’s findings… They will also promote a campaign against injustice and persecutions (Collaborative task). All partners are responsible for the planning and the implementation of each task. Students will introduce themselves, exchange information and perform the collaborative tasks on TwinSpace.

EXPECTED RESULTS

Students will become more aware of their own attitudes, perceptions and feelings about various aspects of diversity, they will be more open and tolerant towards differences thus facing the challenge of the present cultural change. They will compare the past and the present events, becoming more concerned about human diversity and promoting respect and active citizenship.  The results will be published on TwinSpace, each school websites, video conference, local associations…
